This past week has been hopping in the McKelvie Library! We have actively started talking about summer reading and its importance. The classes that have come to the library to be shown the "Summer Reading" page found on the McKelvie Library website under the "Resources" tab have also been working on their TBR (to be read) list. This list contains books that your child would like to possibly read during the summer break. Be on the lookout for this list! Click HERE to see the page containing a note about summer reading as well as resources that will help with their summer reading adventures! I have been stressing with the students the importance of reading what they love during the summer. There are no mandatory reads for McKelvie Intermediate School students, but it is important to keep up their stamina and read or listen to what they 💙💛! This is an additional gentle reminder that all library books and textbooks are due back to the library on Friday, June 4th. Mos...

I hope everyone had a restful break! We are in the home stretch of this unique school year! During this upcoming week, it is imperative that your child has headphones or earbuds for NHSAS testing. These will need to come to school daily with your child. The library does offer earbuds, which are similar to what one would get when traveling on an airplane, for a $1.00. Please keep this in mind in the event your child's current pair gets misplaced or malfunctions. The Great Stone Face winner will be announced next weekend! Please stay tuned as to which of the twenty 2020-2021 nominees was the favorite of students in grades 4-6 in the state of NH. I love to see the title that receives the greatest number of votes! The title will be posted on the scrolling banner across the McKelvie Library site, as well as on the "GSF tab." Additional information regarding the number of votes etc... can be on the "GSF tab."  This week we had several "Sora Explorers" visit ...

Happy April break, McKelvie! I hope each of you is able to rest, relax, and read! We had many book shoppers today building their vacation reading stacks.  In addition to book shoppers, we held another First Chapter Friday session with the Ramsey/Mueller/Burke/Robinson POD! This has been a wonderful way to introduce students to titles that they might not typically select off of the shelves. While listening to the first chapters of the preselected titles, they are able to sketch, think and wonder, predict, infer and decide what their next read will be. Many students have been making sure that they have read or listened to two or more of the 20-21 New Hampshire Great Stone Face Nominees before the April 30th voting deadline ! Please ask your child which nominees they have enjoyed! Click  HERE  to be redirected to the "GSF" tab found off of the library website for a list of the current nominees. You will also see a Screencastify video on how students can proceed when they are...

Only in New England do we have seventy degree temperatures and then does it snow days later...  As we prepare for the New Hampsire Statewide Assessment System (NHSAS) here at McKelvie in May, I want to remind you that students should have headphones/earbuds to use in school for their academics as well as for the upcoming NHSAS testing. There is an option for students to purchase a pair of inexpensive earbuds (similar to the quality that you would purchase on a plane) from the library for $1.00. Many students have been making sure that two or more of the 20-21 New Hampshire Great Stone Face Nominees have been read or listened to before the April 30th voting deadline! Please ask your child which nominees they have enjoyed! Click HERE to be redirected to the "GSF" tab found off of the library website for a list of the current nominees. You will also see a Screencastify video on how students can proceed when they are ready to vote!  We are almost upon April break. Please be ...

Happy Friday, McKelvie! This post is to let you know that New Hampshire Great Stone Face Voting will be open to your child starting this Monday through Friday, April 30th. As you may recall, this vote is for 4th through 6th graders in the state of NH. As long as your child has read or listened to two or more of these nominees, they will be able to cast their online ballot using their school login credentials. The students will be provided with a short Screencastify video on how to successfully cast their vote before actually doing so. This video and the online ballot will be posted on the "GSF" tab off of the library website. Please be sure to ask your child what NH GSF book they enjoyed the most! Click HERE to see an image of one of Mr. Crowell's classes navigating the McKelvie Virtual Book Tasting as well as Destiny Discover! Students were able to listen to summaries of books and use the catalog to find their next read! It was impressive to watch and listen to the exci...
