Happy Friday, McKelvie! This post is to let you know that New Hampshire Great Stone Face Voting will be open to your child starting this Monday through Friday, April 30th. As you may recall, this vote is for 4th through 6th graders in the state of NH. As long as your child has read or listened to two or more of these nominees, they will be able to cast their online ballot using their school login credentials. The students will be provided with a short Screencastify video on how to successfully cast their vote before actually doing so. This video and the online ballot will be posted on the "GSF" tab off of the library website. Please be sure to ask your child what NH GSF book they enjoyed the most!

Click HERE to see an image of one of Mr. Crowell's classes navigating the McKelvie Virtual Book Tasting as well as Destiny Discover! Students were able to listen to summaries of books and use the catalog to find their next read! It was impressive to watch and listen to the excitment as books were being checked out!

Please click HERE for an important message from the local Fisher Cats Baseball Team! It is time for the 2021 optional reading challenge! This is ALL virtual this year! No forms to mail in. Additionally, note that tickets earned from the 2019-2020 Reading Challege are being honored. You will not have physical tickets from this however, they were entered into their computer system. Please call the box office @ 603-641-2005 or email readingchallenge@nhfishercats.com if you had tickets from last year.

Have "hoppy" weekend! 🐰 ~Mrs. Cote

Happy October, McKelvie! With cooler temperatures upon us, it is a perfect time to “leaf through a good book.” 🍂  Please click HERE for one of our lightbox displays greeting students and staff in our halls outside of the library.  Classes continue to come to the library to work on creating a Destiny Collection to track their independent reading this school year. Mrs. Parnell came with her class on Thursday to create a collection. HERE is an image of us getting started from the McKelvie website. The classes have been engaged and excited to track what they have read digitally. Be sure to ask your child what “good fit” book they are reading independently.  Our new buddy bookshelf has been assembled! Mr. Dave Orleans, our day lead custodian, helped put together our shelf and secure it to the wall. I intend on adding books with two or more copies to the new shelf to promote budding reading and talking about books. It is an opportunity to foster literacy and conversatio...

We had our first class of the year come to the McKelvie Library to "taste books!" The tables were covered in McKelvie blue tablecloths complete with golden plates showcasing various books, vases with student-made origami flowers, flameless candles, and table reservation numbers. The students were greeted by the “chef” and listened to theme music as they entered. This was a unique and fun way to expose students to various genres of books as well as first books in a series! Reading five minute "bites or samples" of these books enabled students to self select books they found interesting and might want to check out. Click HERE to see a student sampling one of our books at the tasting. Books have been flying out of our library following these tastings. It was wonderful to hear so many students who were excited about the books they sampled. It was fun to “stir” up some excitement for reading in our school library. Currently, more reservations are being booked. Stay tune...
