Season's readings from the McKelvie Library! I just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season.  Only three more days until our holiday break.  Cherish the time with your family and children! Enjoy all the magic that the holidays always seem to bring even if it is on the quieter side this year. I have created a Virtual Book Tasting that students can enjoy at their leisure with earbuds. In years past, the library has been transformed into a restaurant of sorts,  complete with table numbers, tablecloths, flameless candles, and books on plates. This was a fun event where students had an opportunity to "sample" books at tables consisting of various genres in the library. The holidays have arrived at McKelvie! There are 66 new titles ready for our readers and researchers to check out! They are now available for your child(ren) to place a hold on. Please be sure to check out the images HERE , HERE , and HERE of students in the Opitz/Parnell POD taking notes Coronavirus style! The students were absolutey AMAZING as they navigated from station to station taking notes about subtopics under the "umbrella topic" of Westward Expansion! They successfully selected texts from labeled tables and took notes on our library carpet while wearing rubber gloves so the books could stay out of quarantine. The act of taking notes from print materials can still happen with some minor adjustments and the willingness to adapt. Have a festive holiday weekend! ~Mrs. Cote 📚

I hope everyone had a healthy and relaxing five-day vacation! Upon our return, I was able to check in with many of our students and it appears that the break allowed for some much needed pleasure reading! For many of our students, reading is a personal journey and many are using reading for pleasure as an escape during these unprecedented times. For children and adults, books are a form of escapism!  All of the Draper/Sevilla POD came to the library this week to explore EBSCO's NoveList K-8 Plus! After learning how to utilize and navigate this database, students explored Destiny for read-alikes to their initial search in NoveList K-8 Plus. They also had an opportunity to "book shop" and check out new titles to read and add to their TBR (To be read) piles!
