The holidays have arrived at McKelvie! There are 66 new titles ready for our readers and researchers to check out! Click HERE to see an Adobe Spark of the new "presents" which have arrived just in time for the holidays! HERE is the link to Destiny Discover at the McKelvie Library. They are now available for your child(ren) to place a hold on.

Please be sure to check out the images HERE, HERE, and HERE of students in the Opitz/Parnell POD taking notes Coronavirus style! The students were absolutey AMAZING as they navigated from station to station taking notes about subtopics under the "umbrella topic" of Westward Expansion! They successfully selected texts from labeled tables and took notes on our library carpet while wearing rubber gloves so the books could stay out of quarantine. The act of taking notes from print materials can still happen with some minor adjustments and the willingness to adapt.

Have a festive holiday weekend! ~Mrs. Cote 📚

Happy October, McKelvie! With cooler temperatures upon us, it is a perfect time to “leaf through a good book.” 🍂  Please click HERE for one of our lightbox displays greeting students and staff in our halls outside of the library.  Classes continue to come to the library to work on creating a Destiny Collection to track their independent reading this school year. Mrs. Parnell came with her class on Thursday to create a collection. HERE is an image of us getting started from the McKelvie website. The classes have been engaged and excited to track what they have read digitally. Be sure to ask your child what “good fit” book they are reading independently.  Our new buddy bookshelf has been assembled! Mr. Dave Orleans, our day lead custodian, helped put together our shelf and secure it to the wall. I intend on adding books with two or more copies to the new shelf to promote budding reading and talking about books. It is an opportunity to foster literacy and conversatio...

We had our first class of the year come to the McKelvie Library to "taste books!" The tables were covered in McKelvie blue tablecloths complete with golden plates showcasing various books, vases with student-made origami flowers, flameless candles, and table reservation numbers. The students were greeted by the “chef” and listened to theme music as they entered. This was a unique and fun way to expose students to various genres of books as well as first books in a series! Reading five minute "bites or samples" of these books enabled students to self select books they found interesting and might want to check out. Click HERE to see a student sampling one of our books at the tasting. Books have been flying out of our library following these tastings. It was wonderful to hear so many students who were excited about the books they sampled. It was fun to “stir” up some excitement for reading in our school library. Currently, more reservations are being booked. Stay tune...
