Only in New England do we have seventy degree temperatures and then does it snow days later...

As we prepare for the New Hampsire Statewide Assessment System (NHSAS) here at McKelvie in May, I want to remind you that students should have headphones/earbuds to use in school for their academics as well as for the upcoming NHSAS testing. There is an option for students to purchase a pair of inexpensive earbuds (similar to the quality that you would purchase on a plane) from the library for $1.00.

Many students have been making sure that two or more of the 20-21 New Hampshire Great Stone Face Nominees have been read or listened to before the April 30th voting deadline! Please ask your child which nominees they have enjoyed! Click HERE to be redirected to the "GSF" tab found off of the library website for a list of the current nominees. You will also see a Screencastify video on how students can proceed when they are ready to vote!

We are almost upon April break. Please be sure that your child has a "good fit book" and one in the "pipeline" to read and enjoy. We continue to provide homeroom delivery service when books are placed on hold if the title is in the library and not checked out. Our library collection is constantly changing as new titles are always being added. Happy reading, McKelvie!

Keep in mind that any books read can be added to the online form HERE for the 2020-21 NH Fisher Cats Reading Challenge!

Have a great weekend! ~Mrs. Cote 📚

Happy October, McKelvie! With cooler temperatures upon us, it is a perfect time to “leaf through a good book.” 🍂  Please click HERE for one of our lightbox displays greeting students and staff in our halls outside of the library.  Classes continue to come to the library to work on creating a Destiny Collection to track their independent reading this school year. Mrs. Parnell came with her class on Thursday to create a collection. HERE is an image of us getting started from the McKelvie website. The classes have been engaged and excited to track what they have read digitally. Be sure to ask your child what “good fit” book they are reading independently.  Our new buddy bookshelf has been assembled! Mr. Dave Orleans, our day lead custodian, helped put together our shelf and secure it to the wall. I intend on adding books with two or more copies to the new shelf to promote budding reading and talking about books. It is an opportunity to foster literacy and conversatio...

We had our first class of the year come to the McKelvie Library to "taste books!" The tables were covered in McKelvie blue tablecloths complete with golden plates showcasing various books, vases with student-made origami flowers, flameless candles, and table reservation numbers. The students were greeted by the “chef” and listened to theme music as they entered. This was a unique and fun way to expose students to various genres of books as well as first books in a series! Reading five minute "bites or samples" of these books enabled students to self select books they found interesting and might want to check out. Click HERE to see a student sampling one of our books at the tasting. Books have been flying out of our library following these tastings. It was wonderful to hear so many students who were excited about the books they sampled. It was fun to “stir” up some excitement for reading in our school library. Currently, more reservations are being booked. Stay tune...
