Happy April break, McKelvie! I hope each of you is able to rest, relax, and read! We had many book shoppers today building their vacation reading stacks.  In addition to book shoppers, we held another First Chapter Friday session with the Ramsey/Mueller/Burke/Robinson POD! This has been a wonderful way to introduce students to titles that they might not typically select off of the shelves. While listening to the first chapters of the preselected titles, they are able to sketch, think and wonder, predict, infer and decide what their next read will be. Many students have been making sure that they have read or listened to two or more of the 20-21 New Hampshire Great Stone Face Nominees before the April 30th voting deadline ! Please ask your child which nominees they have enjoyed! Click  HERE  to be redirected to the "GSF" tab found off of the library website for a list of the current nominees. You will also see a Screencastify video on how students can proceed when they are...

Only in New England do we have seventy degree temperatures and then does it snow days later...  As we prepare for the New Hampsire Statewide Assessment System (NHSAS) here at McKelvie in May, I want to remind you that students should have headphones/earbuds to use in school for their academics as well as for the upcoming NHSAS testing. There is an option for students to purchase a pair of inexpensive earbuds (similar to the quality that you would purchase on a plane) from the library for $1.00. Many students have been making sure that two or more of the 20-21 New Hampshire Great Stone Face Nominees have been read or listened to before the April 30th voting deadline! Please ask your child which nominees they have enjoyed! Click HERE to be redirected to the "GSF" tab found off of the library website for a list of the current nominees. You will also see a Screencastify video on how students can proceed when they are ready to vote!  We are almost upon April break. Please be ...

Happy Friday, McKelvie! This post is to let you know that New Hampshire Great Stone Face Voting will be open to your child starting this Monday through Friday, April 30th. As you may recall, this vote is for 4th through 6th graders in the state of NH. As long as your child has read or listened to two or more of these nominees, they will be able to cast their online ballot using their school login credentials. The students will be provided with a short Screencastify video on how to successfully cast their vote before actually doing so. This video and the online ballot will be posted on the "GSF" tab off of the library website. Please be sure to ask your child what NH GSF book they enjoyed the most! Students were able to listen to summaries of books and use the catalog to find their next read! It was impressive to watch and listen to the exci...

Another full-in week at McKelvie! It is amazing to have everyone back and the doors to the library always opening. We continue to be very busy at the McKelvie Library. We had the Opitz/Parnell classes visiting as they develop their "BIG bold claims" and write their point of view essays. Click HERE to see an image of some of these students using library books and databases to research topics and points of view! As a friendly reminder, please have your child(ren) check their school emails. On Tuesday mornings, overdue notices/"love notes" are automatically generated and sent. If your child(ren) does not have any outstanding library materials, you will not see an email from "Destiny Discover." If your child places a hold or has a hold ready and there are overdue book(s), unfortunately deliveries will not be able happen until the overdue material(s) are returned. Your support is very much appreciated! Stay tuned for NH Great Stone Face Voting. Information reg...

Happy Friday, McKelvie! It has been a bit since I have been able to congratulate a "Golden Ticket" winner but on Monday that changed! Rafael, in Ms. Hayward's homeroom, located a "Golden Ticket" in a book he had checked out. Click HERE to see Rafael, the "Golden Ticket" he found and his prize. Happy book shopping, Rafael! Be sure to keep in mind the 2020-2021 Great Stone Face books! These books can all be found at the McKelvie Library, the amazing Bedford Public Library, and on Sora. There are so many great titles! A wide variety of genres are included in this list. Remember, your child only needs to read or listen to two or more to participate in voting which will take place in April. Stay tuned for additional details.  Enjoy the sun and warmer temperatures this weekend! ~Mrs. Cote 📚

March 8th will be such an exciting day across the K-8 schools in our district! I am so excited to have everyone back together again at McKelvie. We've got this! Mask up, chin up! HERE is an image of the first full class of 24 students in the library since March 13th!  The McKelvie Library will continue to quarantine books for 3+ days to make sure that our students and books remain safe. The students also continue to sanitize and wear rubber gloves as they browse the books in our school library. When/if this changes, I will post the change here in the weekly blog. This past week was so busy with books being returned after break and with new books being checked out! Right before February break we obtained 64 new titles! Many of these are now in the hands of our McKelvie Readers. We had several classes visiting the library to check out books for "March Madness" activities happening in the classrooms. We also had the Francis/Facques POD come to learn how to use Flipster to r...
