Another full-in week at McKelvie! It is amazing to have everyone back and the doors to the library always opening. We continue to be very busy at the McKelvie Library. We had the Opitz/Parnell classes visiting as they develop their "BIG bold claims" and write their point of view essays. As a friendly reminder, please have your child(ren) check their school emails. On Tuesday mornings, overdue notices/"love notes" are automatically generated and sent. If your child(ren) does not have any outstanding library materials, you will not see an email from "Destiny Discover." If your child places a hold or has a hold ready and there are overdue book(s), unfortunately deliveries will not be able happen until the overdue material(s) are returned. Happy Friday, McKelvie! It has been a bit since I have been able to congratulate a "Golden Ticket" winner but on Monday that changed! Rafael, in Ms. Hayward's homeroom, located a "Golden Ticket" in a book he had checked out. Click HERE to see Rafael, the "Golden Ticket" he found and his prize. Happy book shopping, Rafael! Be sure to keep in mind the 2020-2021 Great Stone Face books! These books can all be found at the McKelvie Library, the amazing Bedford Public Library, and on Sora. There are so many great titles! A wide variety of genres are included in this list. Remember, your child only needs to read or listen to two or more to participate in voting which will take place in April. What a week! We are now full in, and the halls vibrating with excitement. It has been such a journey, but now our gold and blue cohorts are now coming together to form green! Go McKelvie! March 8th will be such an exciting day across the K-8 schools in our district! I am so excited to have everyone back together again at McKelvie. We've got this! Mask up, chin up! HERE is an image of the first full class of 24 students in the library since March 13th!  The McKelvie Library will continue to quarantine books for 3+ days to make sure that our students and books remain safe. The students also continue to sanitize and wear rubber gloves as they browse the books in our school library. When/if this changes, I will post the change here in the weekly blog. This past week was so busy with books being returned after break and with new books being checked out! Right before February break we obtained 64 new titles! Many of these are now in the hands of our McKelvie Readers. We had several classes visiting the library to check out books for "March Madness" activities happening in the classrooms. February vacation is here! You could feel the excitement in the air as we celebrated our second full-in Friday. The McKelvie Library had almost three pages of students who signed in to browse and use the library. That is over 100 students! We also fulfilled about 30 holds that students had requested. I am so thrilled that our students are actively using the library and Destiny Discover. Many were excited about building their reading stacks for break. On Wednesday, 64 new books arrived. We are busy processing these new acquisitions and getting them into the hands of our readers. New books 📚= reading excitement! 😊 This is a repost from last week! You could feel the excitement in the library as the gold and blue cohorts met up and became green for our first full-in Fridays! We had a steady stream of students browsing and returning books and also using the library as a space for a quiet brain break. It was so much fun listening to their conversations about being all back together. The McKelvie students have shown grit and willingness to adapt as we keep our library open! I am so impressed by our McKelvie Library students.  February  break is ALMOST here!  The library is looking for photos of where books went over break. I would love to have photographs of books (it does not have to be a school library book) with their readers to display in the library windows with the caption "Oh, The Places Our Books Go!" This can be as simple as snapping a photograph with you and book in a comfy spot at home or you and a book in the car heading to the mountains of NH for a ski day....

I hope that everyone was able to get out and play during our snow day this past Tuesday! ❄ During our day off, I spent some time streamlining our Digital Resources page. I hope this will be more user friendly and accessible for our students. This was created using Google Slides. The second slide has the username/user ID information as well as the password for the databases McKelvie subscribes to.
