February vacation is here! You could feel the excitement in the air as we celebrated our second full-in Friday. The McKelvie Library had almost three pages of students who signed in to browse and use the library. That is over 100 students! We also fulfilled about 30 holds that students had requested. I am so thrilled that our students are actively using the library and Destiny Discover. Many were excited about building their reading stacks for break.

On Wednesday, 64 new books arrived. We are busy processing these new acquisitions and getting them into the hands of our readers. New books 📚= reading excitement! 😊

This is a repost from last week! Please don't forget:

February break is here! The library is looking for photos of where books went over break. I would love to have photographs of books (it does not have to be a school library book) with their readers to display in the library windows with the caption "Oh, The Places Our Books Go!" This can be as simple as snapping a photograph with you and book in a comfy spot at home or you and a book in the car heading to the mountains of NH for a ski day. Email the picture with your name and the location to cotej@sau25.net. I will print and display all of the pictures I receive! I can't wait to see where you relax and read at home or where your books travel! If you have a special furry friend, feel free to capture them with you reading, but please don't let pets snack on the books! 🐶📖Feel free to send these images to me starting February 20th. These images make for a fun display on our library windows.

Happy October, McKelvie! With cooler temperatures upon us, it is a perfect time to “leaf through a good book.” 🍂  Please click HERE for one of our lightbox displays greeting students and staff in our halls outside of the library.  Classes continue to come to the library to work on creating a Destiny Collection to track their independent reading this school year. Mrs. Parnell came with her class on Thursday to create a collection. HERE is an image of us getting started from the McKelvie website. The classes have been engaged and excited to track what they have read digitally. Be sure to ask your child what “good fit” book they are reading independently.  Our new buddy bookshelf has been assembled! Mr. Dave Orleans, our day lead custodian, helped put together our shelf and secure it to the wall. I intend on adding books with two or more copies to the new shelf to promote budding reading and talking about books. It is an opportunity to foster literacy and conversatio...

We had our first class of the year come to the McKelvie Library to "taste books!" The tables were covered in McKelvie blue tablecloths complete with golden plates showcasing various books, vases with student-made origami flowers, flameless candles, and table reservation numbers. The students were greeted by the “chef” and listened to theme music as they entered. This was a unique and fun way to expose students to various genres of books as well as first books in a series! Reading five minute "bites or samples" of these books enabled students to self select books they found interesting and might want to check out. Click HERE to see a student sampling one of our books at the tasting. Books have been flying out of our library following these tastings. It was wonderful to hear so many students who were excited about the books they sampled. It was fun to “stir” up some excitement for reading in our school library. Currently, more reservations are being booked. Stay tune...
