Please make sure that your child(ren) have at least one "Good Fit" book and another in the "pipeline" for the 5 days off from school. This is a perfect opportunity to enjoy some pleasure reading. Be sure to find some time to relax and read, McKelvie! If you have a car ride or some fireside downtime, please remember that Sora is an amazing option if you and your family would like to listen to an audiobook! With the Sora app downloaded, you will never be without a great book! Personally, I have found Sora to be a great source of entertainment during car rides as it keeps backseat occupants engaged (minumal squabbling and less attention seeking from the driver)! 📚 😊 This is an additional reminder that there is an app for Destiny Discover so that the students can listen to audiobooks we have right in our Destiny catalog. Students can also read eBooks from Destiny. Students can do this via their school issued Chromebooks or from the app on a personal device (phone or t...

It is hard to think that we only have one more full week of school before the two-day week before Thanksgiving! This past week we had Mr. Crowell's ELA classes, as well as some of Mrs. Correia's classes, in the library for lessons about how to use our EBSCO subscription database, NoveList K-8 Plus, as a reader's advisory tool. This year, given our unique learning schedule, I am encouraging the students to always have a "Good Fit" book in their hands and another one in the "pipeline." Given our schedule, it is not always possible to get to our school library! Please check in with your child about the "Good Fit" book they are reading and the other one they are ready to dive into! Don't forget about Sora (our eBook and audiobook platform) and the amazing Bedford Public Library as well!  We continue to fulfill holds which students are placing through Destiny Discover! I am so proud of the students and how well they navigate this system. The hol...

Happy Fri-yay! I hope you all enjoy warm temperatures forecasted! What a difference a week's time can make in New Hampshire.  Did you know that the McKelvie Library subscribes to several online periodicals/magazines? These periodicals range in topics from animals to current events. The list of digitally accessible periodicals via the Flipster button is found HERE . Be sure to click on the Flipster link, and if you are off-campus use the User ID: mckelvie (all lowercase letters) and the Password: #03110. This will give you access to the following eight titles: Discover, Cobblestone, Girls' World, Muse, National Geographic Kids, The Week Junior, Boys' Life, and Sports Illustrated Kids. Once you are logged in, you can scroll the first carousel shown to see the most current issues of the above listed magazines! Your child(ren) can access these right from their Chromebook or from another computer. There is even an app which can be downloaded onto a mobile device with the help o...

A big shout-out and thank you to the Cerrato, O'Donnell, and Page families! The generous donation of rubber gloves from these families will certainly help to keep our students and books safe as we browse the McKelvie library for a "good fit" book! Your support is immensely appreciated. Thank you, thank you! Our Destiny Discover overdue email notices aka "love notes" are working! These are auto-generated on Tuesday mornings at 7:00. Please encourage your child(ren) to check their school email accounts for any emails regarding overdue books. This will be my primary way of notifying students if their library book(s) are overdue. If your child does not receive an overdue notice via "Destiny Discover Do Not Reply" in their inbox on Tuesday mornings, they do not have any overdues. Your support as we try to be paperless is appreciated.  As of November 3, 2020, bills will be issued via the United States Postal Service for any overdue or missing textbooks or li...

It was another short but productive week in the library! I continue to be amazed by the number of students actively using Destiny Discover to place holds. Our delivery/concierge service is being utilized by so many. My reading heart swells when holds are delivered to our readers and researchers! Do you have a child at home who is unsure of what to read next? Please feel free to direct them to the "GSF" tab (5th tab) off of the library website. This page has twenty of the current 2020-2021 Great Stone Face Nominees which the students in grades four through six will be able to vote for their favorite during National Library Week in April! Students are encouraged to read two or more of the twenty nominees in order to participate. These are current (within the last three years) publications and span a variety of genres! On this page, you will find an embedded Google Slides presentation containing images of the covers, a summary of each title, as well as if the nominee is found in...

Hello McKelvie Families! I hope this blog post finds you all well and healthy. On Tuesday, paper overdue notices were printed and distributed. As a result of this, we had many overdue books returned. Thank you for helping your child remember to check their school library Destiny account to see what they have checked out from our library and when their book(s) are due. I understand that our current hybrid situation might make it challenging to return a book or books on time, so I just ask that it/they come back to our library the next day your child attends school at McKelvie. I also recognize that in my Friday, September 11, 2020, post I stated overdue notices would be sent via student's school email. Due to a technological issue, this is currently not happening. I will continue to print out paper overdue notices until the issue is resolved at which point I will update you of the progress. Please be sure your child's library books are protected in their backpacks/schoolbags and...
