Please make sure that your child(ren) have at least one "Good Fit" book and another in the "pipeline" for the 5 days off from school. This is a perfect opportunity to enjoy some pleasure reading. Be sure to find some time to relax and read, McKelvie!

If you have a car ride or some fireside downtime, please remember that Sora is an amazing option if you and your family would like to listen to an audiobook! With the Sora app downloaded, you will never be without a great book! Personally, I have found Sora to be a great source of entertainment during car rides as it keeps backseat occupants engaged (minumal squabbling and less attention seeking from the driver)! 📚 😊

This is an additional reminder that there is an app for Destiny Discover so that the students can listen to audiobooks we have right in our Destiny catalog. Students can also read eBooks from Destiny. Students can do this via their school issued Chromebooks or from the app on a personal device (phone or tablet). Downloading the app will reqire parent/caregiver permission and support.

Does your child want to read a periodical or magazine article digitally? If so, don't forget about the Flipster app I wrote about last week.

Please do not hesistate to reach out via email or at x22221 if you have any questions.

I want to wish each of the McKelvie families a happy and safe Thanksgiving! During these unprecedented times, it is important to remember all that we are thankful for even as we experience the heightned stress and changes to how we celebrate our traditions. 🦃

Happy October, McKelvie! With cooler temperatures upon us, it is a perfect time to “leaf through a good book.” 🍂  Please click HERE for one of our lightbox displays greeting students and staff in our halls outside of the library.  Classes continue to come to the library to work on creating a Destiny Collection to track their independent reading this school year. Mrs. Parnell came with her class on Thursday to create a collection. HERE is an image of us getting started from the McKelvie website. The classes have been engaged and excited to track what they have read digitally. Be sure to ask your child what “good fit” book they are reading independently.  Our new buddy bookshelf has been assembled! Mr. Dave Orleans, our day lead custodian, helped put together our shelf and secure it to the wall. I intend on adding books with two or more copies to the new shelf to promote budding reading and talking about books. It is an opportunity to foster literacy and conversatio...

We had our first class of the year come to the McKelvie Library to "taste books!" The tables were covered in McKelvie blue tablecloths complete with golden plates showcasing various books, vases with student-made origami flowers, flameless candles, and table reservation numbers. The students were greeted by the “chef” and listened to theme music as they entered. This was a unique and fun way to expose students to various genres of books as well as first books in a series! Reading five minute "bites or samples" of these books enabled students to self select books they found interesting and might want to check out. Click HERE to see a student sampling one of our books at the tasting. Books have been flying out of our library following these tastings. It was wonderful to hear so many students who were excited about the books they sampled. It was fun to “stir” up some excitement for reading in our school library. Currently, more reservations are being booked. Stay tune...
