Your child should have received a second email, sent to their school email address, from the "McKelvie Intermediate School Library." This email lists the books and textbooks that they currently have checked out from the school library. The email is a friendly reminder of what needs to be returned to our school library on June 8th-11th. Please do not worry that the books are overdue at this point. I am looking forward to seeing your smiles next week. Please see Mrs. Asdot's memo for additional information about this scheduled process. Thank you for encouraging your child(ren) to be on the lookout for this email communication.

Congratulations to the 2020 Great Stone Face Award Winner! New Kid by Jerry Craft received the greatest number of votes out of the 20 nominees. New Kid also received the John Newbery Award in January! This is the first graphic novel to win this prestigious award since the origination of the award in 1922! Congratulations, Jerry Craft. Stay tuned for the sequel to New Kid being released soon! It is titled Class Act and is due out in October. Thank you, McKelvie for participating in this statewide vote!

Be sure to visit the McKelvie Library Summer Reading web page. The purpose of this web page is to promote reading for pleasure and will provide some resources which can be accessed! Click HERE to view this web page. This page will be under construction throughout the summer.

I wish you all a safe and happy summer filled with great reads!  ~Mrs. Cote 📚

Happy October, McKelvie! With cooler temperatures upon us, it is a perfect time to “leaf through a good book.” 🍂  Please click HERE for one of our lightbox displays greeting students and staff in our halls outside of the library.  Classes continue to come to the library to work on creating a Destiny Collection to track their independent reading this school year. Mrs. Parnell came with her class on Thursday to create a collection. HERE is an image of us getting started from the McKelvie website. The classes have been engaged and excited to track what they have read digitally. Be sure to ask your child what “good fit” book they are reading independently.  Our new buddy bookshelf has been assembled! Mr. Dave Orleans, our day lead custodian, helped put together our shelf and secure it to the wall. I intend on adding books with two or more copies to the new shelf to promote budding reading and talking about books. It is an opportunity to foster literacy and conversatio...

We had our first class of the year come to the McKelvie Library to "taste books!" The tables were covered in McKelvie blue tablecloths complete with golden plates showcasing various books, vases with student-made origami flowers, flameless candles, and table reservation numbers. The students were greeted by the “chef” and listened to theme music as they entered. This was a unique and fun way to expose students to various genres of books as well as first books in a series! Reading five minute "bites or samples" of these books enabled students to self select books they found interesting and might want to check out. Click HERE to see a student sampling one of our books at the tasting. Books have been flying out of our library following these tastings. It was wonderful to hear so many students who were excited about the books they sampled. It was fun to “stir” up some excitement for reading in our school library. Currently, more reservations are being booked. Stay tune...
