Thank you to all of the McKelvie families for returning your library books last Friday, May 15th! If you were unable to drop-off, there will be a blue bin in the vestibule area for you to place library books into (not textbooks just yet). You do not need to "buzz" in as the bin will be situated in the area before actually entering the school.

Click HERE to see a Flipgrid short about library books and textbooks. Have you checked your Destiny account yet to see what you still have out under your account?

This is just a friendly reminder about Sora! Please be sure to check the link HERE to a slides presentation with an embedded Screencastify video, to get started! Sora, an OverDrive product, is a digital platform which allows K-12 schools to access audio and eBooks. Sora allows our readers to log in with their school email account to access over 1,000 juvenile fiction and non-fiction titles in the New Hampshire Schools Shared Digital Collection.

Students in grades 4-6 statewide, who have read/listened to 2 or more nominees, are encouraged to participate. Many of the McKelvie students were actively reading through this list! McKelvie students will be able to cast their ONE vote for their favorite nominee via a Google Form ballot. This form/ballot will be found under the "Great Stone Face" tab at the very bottom of the page. It can also be found on the Destiny homepage under "Announcements." An additional reminder regarding voting will be sent out the week before voting ends on May 31st.  The winner will be announced June 1st!

HERE is a link to the Google Slides presentation I adapted to serve as a reminder of the current nominees. This can also be found on the "GSF" tab from the McKelvie Library homepage.

Happy Memorial Day weekend, McKelvie.  ~Mrs. Cote 📕

Happy October, McKelvie! With cooler temperatures upon us, it is a perfect time to “leaf through a good book.” 🍂  Please click HERE for one of our lightbox displays greeting students and staff in our halls outside of the library.  Classes continue to come to the library to work on creating a Destiny Collection to track their independent reading this school year. Mrs. Parnell came with her class on Thursday to create a collection. HERE is an image of us getting started from the McKelvie website. The classes have been engaged and excited to track what they have read digitally. Be sure to ask your child what “good fit” book they are reading independently.  Our new buddy bookshelf has been assembled! Mr. Dave Orleans, our day lead custodian, helped put together our shelf and secure it to the wall. I intend on adding books with two or more copies to the new shelf to promote budding reading and talking about books. It is an opportunity to foster literacy and conversatio...

We had our first class of the year come to the McKelvie Library to "taste books!" The tables were covered in McKelvie blue tablecloths complete with golden plates showcasing various books, vases with student-made origami flowers, flameless candles, and table reservation numbers. The students were greeted by the “chef” and listened to theme music as they entered. This was a unique and fun way to expose students to various genres of books as well as first books in a series! Reading five minute "bites or samples" of these books enabled students to self select books they found interesting and might want to check out. Click HERE to see a student sampling one of our books at the tasting. Books have been flying out of our library following these tastings. It was wonderful to hear so many students who were excited about the books they sampled. It was fun to “stir” up some excitement for reading in our school library. Currently, more reservations are being booked. Stay tune...
