Congratulations to our second raffle winner drawn during National School Library Month! Grady W. , from Mrs. Steere's homeroom, was selected out of the 68 entries submitted. The Great Stone Face title that Grady selected, via the Google Form entry, will be mailed to his home from one of our local indie bookstores, Bookery Manchester. Happy reading, Grady!

McKelvie, we have a new digital resource to explore! Sora, an OverDrive product, is a digital platform which allows K-12 schools to access audio and eBooks. Our school has recently enrolled in the New Hampshire Schools Shared Digital Collection via the Sora platform. Sora is an OverDrive product that will allow our readers to log in with their school account and access over 1,000 juvenile fiction and non-fiction titles. Many students access Flipster, our digital platform for magazines! We now have an additional title for students to browse! We just obtained a magazine titled The Week Junior. This is a current events title students may want to read and think about. Do not forget, Flipster is an EBSCO resource. The user ID is: mckelvie (all lowercase letters) and the Password is: #03110 (don't forget the # before the 03110). By logging into Flipster, you will have access to eight digital magazine titles.

Did you know that there is a reading challenge taking place via the Bedford Public Library? McKelvie, with adult/caregiver permission, this is a challenge you may want to consider participating in! Click HERE for more information about the challenge and using Beanstack to track your reading. Emily Sennott, Head of Children's Services at the Bedford Public Library, is encouraging you to take part in the challenge! The goal is to read 2,020 hours as a community before May 4th! Good luck!

Happy October, McKelvie! With cooler temperatures upon us, it is a perfect time to “leaf through a good book.” 🍂  Please click HERE for one of our lightbox displays greeting students and staff in our halls outside of the library.  Classes continue to come to the library to work on creating a Destiny Collection to track their independent reading this school year. Mrs. Parnell came with her class on Thursday to create a collection. HERE is an image of us getting started from the McKelvie website. The classes have been engaged and excited to track what they have read digitally. Be sure to ask your child what “good fit” book they are reading independently.  Our new buddy bookshelf has been assembled! Mr. Dave Orleans, our day lead custodian, helped put together our shelf and secure it to the wall. We had our first class of the year come to the McKelvie Library to "taste books!" The tables were covered in McKelvie blue tablecloths complete with golden plates showcasing various books, vases with student-made origami flowers, flameless candles, and table reservation numbers. The students were greeted by the “chef” and listened to theme music as they entered. This was a unique and fun way to expose students to various genres of books as well as first books in a series! Reading five minute "bites or samples" of these books enabled students to self select books they found interesting and might want to check out. It was wonderful to hear so many students who were excited about the books they sampled. It was fun to “stir” up some excitement for reading in our school library. I hope that everyone was able to get out and play during our snow day this past Tuesday! ❄ During our day off, I spent some time streamlining our Digital Resources page. I hope this will be more user friendly and accessible for our students. This was created using Google Slides. The second slide has the username/user ID information as well as the password for the databases McKelvie subscribes to.
