April break is here! The library is looking for photos of where books go over the break. I would love to have photographs of books with their readers to display in the library windows with the caption "Oh, The Places Our Books Go!" This can be as simple as snapping a photograph of a McKelvie reader and book in a comfy spot at home to a McKelvie reader and book on a beach in the tropics. Please email the picture with your child's name and the location to cotej@sau25.net. I will print and display all of the pictures I receive! Thank you in advance for participating! I can't wait to see where books travel over break!

Students are asked to bring in a pair of inexpensive headphones/earbuds to leave at school. We want to remind parents that there is an option for students to purchase a pair of inexpensive earbuds (similar in quality to what you would purchase on a plane) from the library for $1. Earbuds are important for NH SAS Testing.


This is a friendly reminder to protect library books from water and snacks. Please encourage your child(ren) to transport his/her library book(s) to and from school using a plastic bag. This does not need to be a fancy bag. When warmer weather approaches we, unfortunately, have several books damaged by liquids. Rain and water bottles are common themes. I appreciate your help with this very much! We try to protect our book purchases as best we can.

Happy October, McKelvie! With cooler temperatures upon us, it is a perfect time to “leaf through a good book.” 🍂  Please click HERE for one of our lightbox displays greeting students and staff in our halls outside of the library.  Classes continue to come to the library to work on creating a Destiny Collection to track their independent reading this school year. Mrs. Parnell came with her class on Thursday to create a collection. HERE is an image of us getting started from the McKelvie website. The classes have been engaged and excited to track what they have read digitally. Be sure to ask your child what “good fit” book they are reading independently.  Our new buddy bookshelf has been assembled! Mr. Dave Orleans, our day lead custodian, helped put together our shelf and secure it to the wall. Amy Poisson (McKelvie Enrichment Teacher) and Julie Cote (McKelvie Librarian) are excited to offer a new opportunity for students, our first ever before-school book club! The book we have chosen is a 2018-2019 Great Stone Face Nominee by popular Maine author, Andrew Clements. The title of our selection is The Losers Club. Registration Closes on Monday, October 8, 2018, at 5:00 pm . You may click the registration link HERE until the 8th at 5:00 pm. A confirmation email regarding your child’s participation will be sent by Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Thank you! Last Friday we had a furry visitor at the McKelvie Library! Gus, a certified therapy dog, and his owner Barbara Sofield came to visit during the 5th and 6th grade recess times. Both students and staff were thrilled to visit with Gus. We had our first class of the year come to the McKelvie Library to "taste books!" The tables were covered in McKelvie blue tablecloths complete with golden plates showcasing various books, vases with student-made origami flowers, flameless candles, and table reservation numbers. The students were greeted by the “chef” and listened to theme music as they entered. This was a unique and fun way to expose students to various genres of books as well as first books in a series! Reading five minute "bites or samples" of these books enabled students to self select books they found interesting and might want to check out. It was wonderful to hear so many students who were excited about the books they sampled. It was fun to “stir” up some excitement for reading in our school library.
