Enjoy all of the fun of Halloween! Hopefully we all get more treats than tricks. It should be a fun night with a full moon, all the costumes, and then a time change to follow! Be safe and stay warm, McKelvie! 🎃 Click HERE to see a 6th grader ready for book browsing at the McKelvie Library. Thank you again for all of the rubber glove donations!  Congratulations to our 5th "Golden Ticket" winner! Yeah for Grace who located a "Golden Ticket" in her recently borrowed book. Click HERE to see Grace, her prize, as well as her special "Golden Ticket." The prize can be used towards her next great read! Does your child need an image for a project? Please be sure to check out our "Digital Resources" page found under the "Resources" tab off of the McKelvie Library website. Britannica Image Quest is a database which provides images for educational purposes. The images are free for students to use and provide the MLA 8 citation! Mr. Brown's ho...
A big shout-out and thank you to the Cerrato, O'Donnell, and Page families! The generous donation of rubber gloves from these families will certainly help to keep our students and books safe as we browse the McKelvie library for a "good fit" book! Your support is immensely appreciated. Thank you, thank you! Our Destiny Discover overdue email notices aka "love notes" are working! These are auto-generated on Tuesday mornings at 7:00. Please encourage your child(ren) to check their school email accounts for any emails regarding overdue books. This will be my primary way of notifying students if their library book(s) are overdue. If your child does not receive an overdue notice via "Destiny Discover Do Not Reply" in their inbox on Tuesday mornings, they do not have any overdues. Your support as we try to be paperless is appreciated.  As of November 3, 2020, bills will be issued via the United States Postal Service for any overdue or missing textbooks or li...

It was another short but productive week in the library! I continue to be amazed by the number of students actively using Destiny Discover to place holds. Our delivery/concierge service is being utilized by so many. My reading heart swells when holds are delivered to our readers and researchers! Do you have a child at home who is unsure of what to read next? Please feel free to direct them to the "GSF" tab (5th tab) off of the library website. This page has twenty of the current 2020-2021 Great Stone Face Nominees which the students in grades four through six will be able to vote for their favorite during National Library Week in April! Students are encouraged to read two or more of the twenty nominees in order to participate. These are current (within the last three years) publications and span a variety of genres! On this page, you will find an embedded Google Slides presentation containing images of the covers, a summary of each title, as well as if the nominee is found in...

Hello McKelvie Families! I hope this blog post finds you all well and healthy. On Tuesday, paper overdue notices were printed and distributed. As a result of this, we had many overdue books returned. Thank you for helping your child remember to check their school library Destiny account to see what they have checked out from our library and when their book(s) are due. I understand that our current hybrid situation might make it challenging to return a book or books on time, so I just ask that it/they come back to our library the next day your child attends school at McKelvie. I also recognize that in my Friday, September 11, 2020, post I stated overdue notices would be sent via student's school email. Due to a technological issue, this is currently not happening. I will continue to print out paper overdue notices until the issue is resolved at which point I will update you of the progress. Please be sure your child's library books are protected in their backpacks/schoolbags and...

Happy Friday, McKelvie families! Our school library staff have been SO impressed with our students! Part of our protocol for browsing books in the library is to use a squirt of hand sanitizer and then don rubber gloves. These procedures keep our books and students safe during this unique time. If a book is handled without gloved hands, we need to quarantine the book for 72+ hours. As a workaround, we ask that if books are handled in the library as the students browse, they wear rubber gloves. This saves the books that are not selected at that time from being put into a quarantine bin. With that being said, we are in need of boxes of size large rubber gloves (non-latex) to help with our book browsing. We love having students in our school library and would love to have them continue to browse our collection with safety in mind. Thank you in advance for considering donating a box of rubber gloves (non-latex) to our school library.   Do you ever have your child say, "I wish I cou...

Wow! It is hard to believe that it is the last Friday of September! The McKelvie Library has many digital resources available for our readers and researchers! Please click HERE to access our "Digital Resouces"  page linked to the library site. This page has the links to our subscription databases and is very useful for research, locating images, as well as finding a next great fiction or nonfiction title based on a book your child has read and enjoyed. Please take a moment to read the help text below the images of the databases or the modules. These brief notes will help determine which database can best serve your child/children's needs. Please note that the usernames and passwords are in red to help with logging in. Most of these databases provide the MLA8 citation for the students. The citations just have to be copied, pasted, and formatted properly (size 12 Times New Roman font, double spaced, and the first line of the citation is left-aligned with the additional lin...

Happy Friday, McKelvie! It has been a busy week with McKelvie book deliveries and the start of "Good Fit Book" lessons! These will continue for some time to get the many classes in! The students have been browsing books with rubber gloves to keep the books as well as themselves safe and healthy. After each class, the seating spaces and dry erase markers are being sanitized. The gloves are removed as the students exit the space. They have been wonderful and I have not heard one complaint! Book browsing and borrowing is in full swing at the McKelvie Library.  Just before the first day of school, 10 "Golden Tickets" were placed inside the pages of various books in the McKelvie Library. Click HERE to see one of the signs promoting the McKelvie "Golden Tickets." There have been two "Golden Tickets" found. One was found by Mr. Crowell's daughter after he checked out some picture books to share with his two young girls. Another one was found just th...
