Week 1 Remote Learning from the McKelvie Library Flipgrid Video   📚 Did you know that in addition to the McKelvie Library subscription databases found  HERE , we have many audiobooks, Lightbox Digital Multidimensional Interactive Books, and eBooks available through Destiny Discover!  Your child will need to log into his/her Destiny account using the link provided off of the library site titled " Destiny ." To "Log in using your Follett account," students will use their student ID number (99.....) and their regular school password. If they are using a Chromebook while accessing Destiny, they will be prompted, via a blue box, to "Sign in with Google." Congratulations to Isabella N. in Mrs. Mail's room for having her "Search Slip" drawn from the many slips that were collected during the month of February. Click  HERE  to see our 6th "Search Slip" winner. Book spine poetry is a great way to use book titles to create poetry. Friday in the library, spine label poetry was introduced by Mrs. Topf using the books. Click  HERE  and  HERE  to see students actively engaged in creating poems using the titles of the books! This is a friendly reminder that if your child(ren) are participating in the Fisher Cats 2019-2020 Reading Challenge, forms need to be mailed to: NH Fisher Cats, Attn: Reading Challenge, 1 Line Drive, Manchester, NH 03101 The forms are due on or before Friday, March 13, 2020. Happy break McKelvie! The McKelvie Library was a very busy place this week. There were eight classes that came this week to build their reading stacks for vacation, as well as prepare for a March Madness reading activity which will begin for many classes after break. Students were exposed to books in a restaurant-like setting complete with reservations! Students were "served" various genres or formats of books during the tastings. They used their menus at the end of our time together to make a book selection(s) in preparation for their March Madness Book Tournament and to make sure that they had titles to dive into over break. In addition to these classes, the library has been busy with students coming to relax and read, building with Keva Planks, using the cat's cradle strings, solving the many Rubik's Cubes we have, creating broken crayon art, creating with origami and putting together our latest community puzzle! Happy Valentine's Day,  McKelvie ! 💙It was a short but productive week in the library. I continue to be amazed by the number of students who use our Destiny Library Catalog to be "search savvy." We have a large number of patrons who continue to place books on hold and then proceed to check their account or school email to see when the hold is ready!  Click  HERE  to see an Adobe Spark of the newly purchased and catalogued books purchased with the $500.00 donation from  Worthen's  Mobile in  Bedford ! The library was busy this week with fiction book tastings and classes coming to learn to cite  TrueFlix  ebooks and print books. Many students have found that the subscription library databases have been helpful with a unit about Westward Expansion!  We continue to add new titles to our school library collection! Be sure to have your child check out the ribbon in Destiny Discover to see the "Recently Added Books." It is also helpful for the students to check their holds and checkouts, to make sure holds (books that have been placed on hold if they are currently out of the library) are checked out and returned on time. Last Friday, the 5th "Search Slip" raffle was held for the month of January! The "Search Slips" are filled out with the title of the book, the author's last name, and the call number. This is done when students are looking for a book using the online catalog. The student then has an opportunity to write his/her name on the back...

This week has been very busy in the library! Several classes came for various learning opportunities. These opportunities included learning how to properly cite print and electronic books using the Modern Language Association version 8 (MLA 8), note taking, and book tastings with fiction and nonfiction books. Click  HERE  to see 6th grade students browsing nonfiction texts to help them explore topics to use as they write a nonfiction essay. After selecting a topic of interest to them, the students then checked out print books and in some cases accessed our online databases.
