Happy Friday to the McKelvie Community! I hope this note finds you all well. The McKelvie Library remains a busy place. This week some 5th grade classes and I have been discussing what a "good fit book" means and using the analogy between books and shoes. I have been very impressed with the connections made between shoes and books. One student wrote, "You have to find a good fit book just like you have to find a good fitting pair of shoes." Click  HERE  to see the Post-It Note Thoughts Sign we created with one of the Brown/Correia Classes! Congratulations to Andrea, a 6th grader, who located a "Golden Ticket." Click  HERE  to see Andrea and the 6th "Golden Ticket." She received a $5.00 gift card to Barnes & Noble.  Today we had a furry visitor at the McKelvie Library!  Gus , a certified therapy dog, and his owner Barbara Sofield came to visit during the 5th and 6th grade recess times. Both students and staff were thrilled to visit wi...

Hello McKelvie Families! It is official! All 29 classes have been to the McKelvie Library as of this afternoon for a library overview. Students have been busy browsing, checking out books and placing books on hold. 5th and 6th graders now know how to check their Destiny Library Account to see when books are due and to see if they have a hold ready! This is just a reminder that library materials have a two-week loan period and can be renewed as many times as needed, as long as another patron does not have a hold placed for the material. If a student would like to renew a book, please make sure that they bring it to the library to do so. 6th graders have been creating Collections in Destiny to keep track of the books they have read during the 19-20 school year! These "digital reading logs" are a great way to see images of the books they have completed. The McKelvie library has been a very busy place during WIN times as well as during recess times, even when classes are being ...

Congratulations to Brooke, a 5th grader at McKelvie, who found the 5th “Golden Ticket.” Click  HERE  to see Brooke, her “Golden Ticket” and a reading prize! The McKelvie Library continues to remain a busy place with students relaxing and reading. We have had hour-long library overviews to introduce and reacquaint the students with the physical layout, Destiny Discover (our search interface), policy and procedures, and the 112 new books we have acquired! Ask your child if he/she has visited their school library! So far 17 classes have come through! Click  HERE  to see an image of an overview in the library. Just a friendly reminder... As part of the 1:1 Chromebook program, students were asked to bring in a pair of inexpensive headphones/earbuds to leave at school. We want to remind parents that there is an option for students to purchase a pair of inexpensive earbuds (similar in quality to what you would purchase on a plane) from the library for $1....

Susan Cavanaugh, our Digital Learning Specialist, and I just finished Chromebook Overview lessons for all students! Please make sure that you help your child be a great digital citizen when they are using their school Google account at home. Parents and students should have reviewed and returned the McKelvie Student Chromebook Contract that was sent home. This document outlines all of the student expectations/safety guidelines for using their Chromebooks and school Google accounts. Please click  HERE  if you need to review this important document. Please click  HERE  to see an Adobe Spark of three different students who located Golden Tickets found hidden inside McKelvie Library books! Congrats to Brendan, Kaelyn and Faith! You will also see an image of several September 3rd new releases. It is wonderful when stdents find sequels, compantions and new publications from authors they love.  As part of the 1:1 Chromebook program, students were as...

Hello, McKelvie families! I hope this finds you well. During the summer our school library remained a busy place as I was cataloging books to have ready for the first days of school and hosted 3 Relax & Read Events! Rising 5th -7th graders were able to check out books for the first time during the summer at the McKelvie Intermediate School Library. This was amazing! Book checkouts, frozen treats, and raffles made for many smiles! Thank you to the McKelvie staff who helped to make this possible.  During the summer we also obtained many new fiction, nonfiction, picture books, graphic novels, biographies, and professional books for students and staff. Over 80 of the new acquisitions were processed and students and staff have already been busy browsing, reading, and checking out the new books!  Just before the first day of school, 10 "Golden Tickets" were placed inside the pages of various books in the McKelvie Library. Click HERE to see one of the signs promoting t...
