Wow! It is hard to believe that it is the last Friday of September! The McKelvie Library has many digital resources available for our readers and researchers! Please click HERE to access our "Digital Resources". This page has the links to our subscription databases and is very useful for research, locating images, as well as finding the next great fiction or nonfiction title based on a book your child has read and enjoyed. Please take a moment to read the help text below the images of the databases, as it will help determine which database can best serve your child/children's needs. Please note that the database usernames and passwords are located on the second page of the Google Slides presentation. Most of these databases provide the MLA8 citation for the students. The citations just have to be copied, pasted, and formatted properly (size 12 Times New Roman font, double spaced, and the first line of the citation is left-aligned with the additional lines indented). This...

Happy Friday, McKelvie! It has been a busy week with McKelvie book deliveries continuing and the start of working with "Destiny Discover Collections.” These will continue for some time to get all of the 6th grade classes into the library to create their independent digital reading log for the 2021-2022 school year. The children from all PODs have been actively browsing and borrowing books. The library is a bustling space at our school. We love getting books into the hands of our students. Just before the first day of school, ten "Golden Tickets" were placed inside the pages of various books in the McKelvie Library. Click HERE to see one of the signs promoting the McKelvie "Golden Tickets." So far, nobody has found a “Golden Ticket,” but it certainly has been fun to promote them and answer eager childrens’ questions. I am confident that one or more will be located soon, and I will be sure to showcase this fun find when it happens. This past Wednesday was an espe...

Happy Friday, McKelvie! As families are getting back into a routine, we are again asking that all library books and school-issued textbooks be returned from the 2020-2021 school year. We are trying to "clean up" library accounts. If your 5th grader has any books from an elementary school in town, please send them in with your child and have them return those items to the McKelvie Library. I will make sure that we get them back to the respective elementary school. Your support with this is greatly appreciated. Overdue notices will be paperless this year. Beginning on August 31st, library overdue notices were generated via Destiny Discover. These email reminders are auto-generated on Tuesday mornings and sent to your child's school email account. Please be sure that your child checks for these weekly kind and friendly notices. Please note that the email address the notices are being generated from cannot accept replies. If you or your child have a question or concern, I can...

It was amazing to see the children of McKelvie actively using the library again! Yes, the library is open for business as usual. Students can come to their school library anytime they have a WIN or recess pass. POD teachers also book times to bring their students to the library for various directed learning activities, as well as book shopping. My librarian’s heart is happy. ðŸ’™ðŸ“š Our Destiny Discover Catalog is open! I have embedded two videos, one which explains how to add holds (for books that are currently checked in and available in the library). These videos can be viewed on Destiny Discover. All holds requested are being delivered directly to homerooms with student names attached to the book(s). We are trying our best to provide same-day delivery service (similar to DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Amazon), but promise the holds will be fulfilled within 48 school hours. Between Tuesday and Wednesday of this past week, we had over one hundred holds placed! We will continue to provide t...

Thank you to all of the McKelvie families and staff who consistently read my weekly updates! I am grateful for all of your support this year. What a year it has been...  I have had two takeaways from last spring and the current school year. One being that continued and consistent book access is imperative, not only during a "regular" year but also during a "pandemic year." SO many of our students used our library and the books, not only to discover and learn, but also to escape to a world different from the world we carefully navigated for over a year. For many of the students, reading provided a sense of comfort. Getting lost in a character's world has provided a simple break from what we have all maneuvered this past year.  Additionally, I have been completely amazed at how resilient our students have been. I continue to be impressed with how well they have adapted to all of the changes we have faced! It has been amazing to watch and talk with them. Please, pl...

This past week has been hopping in the McKelvie Library! We have actively started talking about summer reading and its importance. The classes that have come to the library to be shown the "Summer Reading" page found on the McKelvie Library website under the "Resources" tab have also been working on their TBR (to be read) list. This list contains books that your child would like to possibly read during the summer break. Be on the lookout for this list! Click HERE to see the page containing a note about summer reading as well as resources that will help with their summer reading adventures! I have been stressing with the students the importance of reading what they love during the summer. There are no mandatory reads for McKelvie Intermediate School students, but it is important to keep up their stamina and read or listen to what they 💙💛! This is an additional gentle reminder that all library books and textbooks are due back to the library on Friday, June 4th. Mos...
